Woldies

Explore Woldies — a relaxed family day out with nature trails, giant mazes, outdoor play, sand and water, a miniature railway and plenty of space to explore.

Outdoor play, nature and plenty to discover

Woldies is a family-run attraction at Wintringham near Malton, built around nature gardens, trails and outdoor play. It is designed as a quieter alternative to the big theme-park style attractions, with children able to move between play areas, gardens, wildlife activities and games at their own pace. There are two giant mazes, dens, forts, sand and water play, foot golf, foot pool and an optional miniature railway, making it a particularly good choice for families who want a full day outdoors without spending most of it standing in queues.

For Families

Families are very much the main audience here. Woldies describes itself as an award-winning family day out, with play and activities suitable across different ages. Younger children can enjoy the sand and water areas, dens, forts and play zones, while older children can tackle the mazes, foot golf and nature trails. There are also seasonal family activities, and for 2026 the attraction added a Wild Superhero Mission and observation beehive alongside its existing nature gardens and wildlife areas.

For Walkers

Woldies is best suited to gentle walking rather than a serious countryside hike. The attraction has gardens, trails, wildlife areas and open spaces to explore, so visitors naturally spend much of the day walking between different parts of the site. It works particularly well for families who want to combine a leisurely wander with activities for the children rather than setting off on a dedicated long-distance route.

Dog Friendly

Dogs are welcome throughout Woldies in both indoor and outdoor areas, provided they are well behaved and kept on a short lead. The one specific restriction is that dogs should be kept out of the sand in the children’s play area. Owners are also asked to clean up after their dogs, with bins provided around the site.

For Food & Drink

Woldies has on-site food and drink facilities, so you do not need to leave the attraction when everyone suddenly decides they are starving. There are options for drinks, snacks and light food, and visitors can also bring their own picnic. That makes it easy to stop partway through the day rather than trying to persuade tired children that lunch can wait until you get back to the car.

What to expect

Expect an outdoor attraction where children are encouraged to get involved rather than simply look around. Woldies recommends allowing at least three hours, although many visitors spend most of the day there. The ground includes grass, woodland and sandy surfaces, and there are sheltered areas and tree cover in places. The sand and water play can get messy, so sensible outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear are a good idea.

Annie-style local tip

Take a spare set of clothes for younger children, particularly if they are likely to discover the sand and water play. Woldies is the sort of place where the activity you thought would take ten minutes can suddenly become the highlight of the entire afternoon, so don’t over-plan the visit. Let the children explore, follow what catches their attention and enjoy the fact that nobody needs to rush.

Before you go

Woldies is seasonal, so check the current opening dates before travelling. In 2026 it opens weekends and Bank Holidays from 28 March to 6 September, with daily summer opening from 1 July to 6 September. Online booking is recommended and currently gives a saving compared with paying at the gate. Train rides are optional and are booked separately on arrival on a first-come, first-served basis. Free visitor parking is available, and Woldies recommends following online-map directions to the attraction rather than relying solely on the postcode.
